Gauge looks cool. I never had any luck with any VW gauges. I like reserve switches.

On a serious note, thing are taking shape now. There were some serious "electrical woes" to over come, and last night we had quite an exciting incident with a few gallons of gas leaking out of the tank. The meant the tank had to come *again* on more reason I choose to sort out ALL of the fuel system issues *before* installing the engine. Heading over in a bit to button up the electrical under the dash and sort some bad "earths" up front. Then it's on to cleaning up the electrical (coil, oil pressure, alt.) wiring in the rear. Once the bus as a whole is 100% dialed I will put the engine in. Should be on the road today as long as it runs as well in the bus as it does on the stand. Saturday / Sunday shakedown. Monday evening pickup.

Thanks Greg for all the hard work to get her done. Bus is back home, minus the engine, that needed a quick trip to VW Paradise to work on the carbs. We dropped off the motor Thursday, Kris was able to fit us in and worked his magic. Had it back Sunday. Buttoning up some interior panel piping tomorrow, and then time to get the motor in.

A little more info so I don't sound too incompetent.... Carbs were previously "rebuilt" and set up by another shop. I was told some minor adjustments and tuning would need to be done but otherwise they were good to go. I got the engine running but something didn't seem right and I was out of time to meet the Classic Weekend deadline so we decided since we were going to Paradise to pick up The Smoker why not have Kris see if it was an engine problem, carb problem, or me problem. Turned out me and the engine are ok but the carbs were f@*%#d One twisted cross shaft, venturis WAY to big for the engine they were "prepped" for, one butterfly smaller than the rest, and wonky jetting. As Jeff said, he took care if it very quickly so no return trip was required, and even delivered it on Sunday to the show. Not to mention a full dyno session in the test car to make sure things worked right under load. Price was very fair considering the amount of work done in the short amount of time. Great customer service from those guys for sure...

Jeff complied a short "punch list" for his bus and dropped it off last week when he picked up the split window. It's a couple days worth of work but I have some previous jobs going so right now I am in the parts collecting stage.
On the list:
Gas tank & gas gauge - Jeff is not happy with the Bay tank and the "fishing lure" gauge (improper fuel level readings, and gas smell) so we are going with a '66 / '67 tank with a new sender and no "vents"
Breather box and hoses - With the back pressure issues Jeff had with the Berg breather he bought a RLR breather for better flow. It has AN fittings, so I'll be making new lines and mounting the new box as well as switching the valve covers over to bolt on style with AN fittings.
Battery box - The bus never had a battery strap, so we're going with a "hot rod" style battery mount that I have seen and used with Optima batteries in the past with good results. Nice and clean
Heaters - Sort out new body to heater box hoses and dial in the cables.
Minor Oil leak - Plain and simple. Find it and fix it.
Rear dome light - Make it work and get a cover for it.
Tank has been cleaned, liner installed and painted. Stock tank straps ordered.
Breather hose ends ordered and hose supply confirmed.
Jeff plans on picking the bus up the second week October so plenty of time to do the work.

Can you send the clock back down to OES for a rebuilt, and add a voltage drop?

Yep. A 12v conversion is probably the better way to go.

Whatever is better. If he can't do a quick turn he can ship it back to me.

So I did manage to get the work handled on Jeff's bus, and do a little something for his '63 ragtop as well. But.... I didn't take the time for pictures. Jeff will have to help out there as everything was picked up last Friday.
Sourced an OG dome light and wired it Minor oil leaks from the drain plate (not a jacking point) and an oil fitting on the case Polished braided breather lines with AN fittings installed to go along with his new breather box and vented valve covers. New "hot rod" style battery mount installed Cleaned up the dash pod area with a new knee knocker and turn signal knob Rebuilt the heater knob and added 60mm / 50mm combo heater tubes so the heater works again and the big job, swapping out the Bay gas tank for an early version.
Done and ready to cruise.....
