Looks a little "sportier" now.
I may have to lose the racks.

is that black paint on the rotors?

Yep, burns / rubs off where the pad hits and keeps the rest of the rotor from rusting.

The Magnesium wheels got blasted this week so they can start out raw and age evenly.
Lugnuts are done, lug holes machined, tires being mounted today.
Should have it on them "new" wheels by the weekend.

Yes it is....

Here's a little secret. The "freshening up" of the 2110cc "smoker" engine is probably going to wait.

I listed my 356 engine for sale and was offered this VW Paradise built IDA'd 2276cc in exchange. The guy has a 356A and wants to swap the VW engine for a Porsche one, so it worked out perfectly.

I'll have to clean it / detail it a bit, but I think it'll be a nice fit. Especially since I wanted to do a 911 shroud in this bus for a long time anyway.

The "smoker" will get a make over down the road and probably get set aside for my Binz.

The engine deal went down today in So Cal
Turbo Steve and I made the trip and the Porsche 1720cc with 40 IDF's was traded for a VW 2276cc with 48 IDA's.

Currently being stored in our hotel room....

That exhaust *might* be perfect for my white 356.... BIG pipes and twin Borla mufflers with a single (Carrera style) exit.

 dunno

I'll have a closer look once i get it back to Santa Rosa.

It was sort of a grab bag / hope to get lucky deal. I figured the 911 kit, IDA's, and oil management covered what I had into the 1720, not to mention I was happy to see it go away after all the bad juju I had with it.

I still haven't heard the new engine run, but when Steve popped off the valve cover to check on the heads there was a set of Pauter roller rockers waiting inside, so I can only imagine the quality of parts in the rest of the engine.

Kris at VW Paradise (builder) had some input, but said it was built before they started keeping records on every engine and was going off his memory only.

engine is 2276 (not a 2180) with a 130 cam
pauter h beam rods w/pauter rockers
40 x 35.5 valves
compression dropped from 11:1 to 9 or 10 (couldn't remember)

First thing I did once it was on the stand and in the shop was take off those air cleaners.......

I'm sure I'll fire it up before the end of the week. I want to hear the exhaust that came with it, but will eventually be running an A-1 per usual.

Did some "cleaning" on the new engine last night before heading home.

I had some extra Red caliper paint, so I tried that.

Not sure how I feel about that, camera phone didn't pick up the colors too good either.

 dunno

Black and Silver are in the running as well. Then I'm going to have to polish everything.......

Lots of AN stuff going on here in the next week. I'm going to order some extra for your stuff Jeff.

I dont know if this is up for discussion but I am not feeling the red too much I think flat black, gloss black and naybe some unpolished aluminum would look great. Just seems like it would look "meaner".

Quote, I love red, but I'm not feeling it either. I do want something that will catch your eye though since it's going to be tucked up inside my bus.

Alex is getting some other pieces from me for that.

This is going to be a quickie. I'd like to be driving it to Kelley Park. It's going to be another whan bam all nighter to do the trans swap and engine install, just like the Vendo. That's a couple weeks out though. Alex is waiting on his Thing, and i have a couple other paying customers that need to be handled.

Some updates on the engine as I have been tinkering with it the past few days.
Red fan is now black, much better.
Red dist. cap is going away and a new black one will replace it.
Started fitting new AN lines, etc. and removing stuff not needed for the bus install.

All was going well until I noticed oil under the engine today.

Seems the "tower" of AN fittings, valves, and hoses coming off the rear (back of car) oil return hole in the case *may* have been a bit too much.

The case is now cracked there.

I'm just glad I noticed it now, before it was running and decided to shoot out going down the road.

This is going to hold up my have it running by the weekend plans, but that's OK
