So getting that tunnel trans took some "massaging" of the 356 sheet metal, as well as some 'clearancing" to the trans, but I got it in!

By the time I was done with the rest of the trial fitting it was too dark for pics, so I'll jump right to the goods.

You may remember the engine in the back ground from my "new transmission" picture.

That's my new power plant. It's probably a bit over kill, but the good stuff always is.

Here's the specs:

freshly assembled 2332 with dyno time only
as41 case std bore and drilled for full flow.
84 Bugpack wedge mated crank type 4 center VW rod
lightened flywheel
chromoly gland nut
4 puc disc
Kennedy stage 1 p/plate
clearanced engle FK89 cam
straight cut cam gears
scat lifters
eagle 5.7 rods
8mm chromoly head studs
94mm weisco pistons w valve relief's cut
94mm Jaycee long barrels
Melling high volume oil pump
Gene berg 4qt oil sump
Jaycee oil filter bracket and mount
System 1 oil filter
stainless braided oil lines and head drain back lines
Jaycee crank trigger kit
copper head gaskets
Super Flo heads ported by heads up performance
10-1 compression
48mm stainless intake valves
40mm stainless exh valves
k-800 springs
scat 1.45 ratio rockers
Jaycee chromoly push rods
Jaycee push rod tubes
match ported intake manifolds for 48mm IDA

and a couple shots of it on the dyno at Jay Cee

The first few pulls got between 198hp - 204hp @ 6000rpm before jetting and *really* tuning the carbs.

Jack asked me if I wanted drive-ability or max hp. I want drive-ability so he tuned it accordingly.

He figures 210hp + @ 6500rpm with a redline up near the 8000rpm mark  shocked

As purchased it's a beauty, but it definitely needs some detailing and tweaking to really make it into a driver engine instead of a drag motor (what it was built for), but it'll do just fine, and I can honestly say I've never had a VW engine that was so MASSIVE in overall size.

I plan on using a Berman 911 kit for cooling

Wrapped in carbon fiber (or maybe $2 bills???)

The cross bar linkage is already gone. I found an awesome twist linkage from CSP in Germany for the smoker already. I'll be getting another for this car as well.

The crank trigger is going away as well as the dist. setup.

The merged header / stinger was only used for tuning. I'm also going to steal the exhaust that came with the smoker motor since it was on a 356 before and looked good.

The answer is yes!

I don't remeber the sump being this close to the ground on the other engine though....   thinking

With the trial fitting done I'm going to adjust the suspension up a bit (I obviously didn't get the spring plates right after I lengthened and notched them) then it's on to sorting the oil cooler / filter placement as well as a breather box of some sort and running a new fuel system.

Fitting up the shroud and other sheet metal will be after that.

Then it's all coming back out some I can detail / paint / wrap it before final assembly and smokey burnouts!

The stance will be fine. I'll change to a thinner sump if need be. I'm not driving around in "ass in the air" Cal Look car that's for sure.
I think a combination of me goofy when I put the spring plates back in, and the new engine being MUCH heavier have the ass a bit lower anyway.

That's today's mission

Mike at Rancho told me the Pro Street plus was good to 250hp. When I told him it was NOT going to have slicks he told me "you'll be fine". I'm *pretty* sure he know what kind of stupid stuff I do and would have up-sold me to a better box if I needed it.

Speaking of that, here's the tranny specs.

3.88
Super Diff
Aluminum Side Cover
Welded 3-4 Hubs
Hardened Keys
Stock gearing
Super Beetle main shaft
HD axles

I put the spring plates back in the right spot today, and got the "stance" back.

It's hard to see, but I have about 2" - 3" clearance on the sump. I may swap it out to a thin line ad re-route the head drains, etc. later one, but for now I know it fits and rolls.

Next on the list... interior. The bench seat really, and some other odds and ends I never got to earlier.

I made it easier for you to sit next to me today... oops

Still needs some cleaning, but then again the front has been run into a curb, so  dunno

At some point I'm going to have the bottom recovered to match the backs (which I stole off the OG buckets) so it all matches.

Sump clearance is no longer an issue either.

We nick-named this engine "The Octopus" because there are oil lines , drains, etc. running everywhere.
I'm going to re-route / remove some of that when the time comes, as well as relocate that filter.

I figured new front bumper brackets were cheap enough so I ordered a set of them today too. Once I have them i'll fit the front bumper to the car and re-paint it.

Then it goes to the back burner again while I get the Smoker back on the road.

You mean in the middle, right?

I'm sure the engine will be too much Jeff, that's the plan.  thumbs up

If you want to go BIG let me know. I have the means to make that happen now with *very* little waiting once we have all the parts on hand.

Thanks Rich, it'll be OK for a driver, but not for jack stands and mirrors.

Kobus hit me up yesterday about shooting it for Air Mighty and another Porsche mag he is doing work for once I have it running. I told him I'd need to do A LOT of work to it before it was magazine ready.

His reply was something along the lines of,  "it's perfect now". So I guess that sums it up.
