With Jeff's 15 window done I can get started on this next project. Matt, the owner, dropped it off around Thanksgiving as he was moving and didn't want to deal with it. He had bought a complete kit form Pete at Airkewld complete with BIG wheels... I told him I had a few jobs to finish before getting to his car and he was OK with that, so here we go. As long as there are no surprises it should go quick as it's just a basic install. Pictures later today once I pick it up from storage and get it over to the "after hours shop"

Air shocks or the air bag beam? Installing the rear kit too?

Not sure, haven't opened the boxes from Pete yet except to take a look at the wheel / tire combo.
I'll have it all spread out Monday for a good look and post some pics.

Bags in the rear, air shocks in the front. 17" and 18" wheels somewhat similar to these.

Nice car Matt. Looks just like my first 69 bug. You are in good hands with Greg. Look forward to seeing the drop and those big wheels. 69 Bug, circa 1985

So I guess I should update this... I like to *work* not take pictures, so I am terrible at that (ask Jeff) but I'll get pictures posted ASAP of the current status.
Front end is all in, air shocks are working off the "stock" tee fitting until I get the air management in. Rear is sitting on the ground (literally) until I can get the mounts welded in for the bags. I'll probably put a pair of stiff / long shocks in the rear so I can move it easier.
I will say I was shocked when that 18x7 wheel tucked up into the rear fender well for the first time. I didn't think it would fit, but Pete definitely did his homework there.
What is really a disappointment is that the rear brake kit was missing a lot of hardware and I'm having a hard time getting it sent to me in a timely manner, so I can't mount the calipers, bleed the brakes, hook up the e-brake, etc. and I really wanted this to be done and gone by Friday.....
In the meantime there are some issues I found when pulling the fuel tank out that Matt wants me to address so that'll keep me busy, and I'll get started on installing the compressor, tank, etc. Once Matt I get an "OK" from Matt on the locations.

Seriously. I need to buy a "better" shop camera. The one I use now pretty much sucks, and my *real* camera I don't really want floating around the shop...

I pickd mine up from wal mart for bout 200 bucks. And its has great reviews and features. It stays in and out of its padded and zipped case, untill I take a shot. 12 mega pix and 12x zoom. Can't beat that for the price. I looked! Canon PowerShot sx 130 IS
I want a air bagd air cooled some day.

Front disk kit is very nice. With a little shimming every went together and was centered perfectly. tucking those 17's in the front now.... Still need to cut off the extra through rods, just wanted to make sure everything was working properly before doing that... Hard to see here, but I added new tie rod ends, new steering dampener, and a new steering box so EVERYTHING on the front end is new now. New master cylinder as well! After lunch I'll align the front (get it close anyway) then get the car down on the ground and outside for a full set of pics in the sun. The fuel pump / filter seen above needs to be addressed still, once that's done the tank will go back in and the front will be buttoned up.

It's definitely lay'd out. Pictures tomorrow. I spent today bleeding the brake system and doing a quickie alignment. By the time I was done it was getting dark.

Another "fun" part of my day was going back and disassembling the front end due to not so clear instructions. Per the directions I placed the supplied 4 bushings between the beam and control arms. It didn't look right at all, but that's what it called for.... 11. To install the upper and lower control arms, you will need to pop out the dust caps out of the control arms. Then you can slide the supplied Delrin bushing over the arm and slide them back into the front end with the supplied hardware as follows, washer, thrust bearing, washer, jam nut & locking nut. No where does it say only use the bushing if you are using a STOCK beam... I had to clarify that with Pete. So, I'll write that up as a learning experience and wont be charging Matt for those extra hours... End of the day it rolls, stops and steers. With gas can under the hood I'll drive it. Still waiting on air management parts, hopefully they'll show up early next week while the rear mounts are being installed so I can go right to installing once that is done.

I can't believe you are still waiting on parts. Wouldn't they next day air them if they were missing?

Tiger at A-1 is being proactive about the muffler. He heas seen the pics and is working on a new pipe / muffler that will clear. Good news as I have run into this problem on Jeff's 15 window as well, but a shorter shock limited the "drop" on the axle.

Looks good. You said the rear will go down lower than the front, are the BJs binding? Thats what I hate about BJ bugs, Are you using the "lowered" BJs? I never tried them so I wanted to know if they make a big difference. With any luck I will never build another 66 up bug again.
