I read 5.5 and thought to myself "HOW"?
Then I looked at it again.

ya... you know me... im jus always lookn for the roads less traveled... (actually.. I always just seem to find myself walking down them all the sudden) icon_lol icon_lol icon_lol

well what my thot was is to see how she rides without them... and then I may do one of two things... first I may use the shock mount area, steel portion I cut off the side plate and after putting on a shock boss, move it back to the outside and attach it with bolts coming all the way thru from the inside... may take a little thot and a slight lean to the shock but may prove to work just fine.

then the fun test... for some time now i have tripd' on the shock design on the vw schwimmwagen... they have a very small shock that is located just between both control arms and has no shock tower... I have always wondered if a design like this would help out all us narrowed beam guys that go so far we loose a shock tower...Huh? hhhmmmm...  "Food For Thought"

I didnt run shocks on my old bus with a 5" beam, I even pulled the small springs out for a softer ride (Thanks Greg).
Never even considered running them. I just though it seemed weird that the uppers where still on the sideplates.

This is matts proto type and will haven' inside plates water cut for his next ones and I'm guna mod these ones on my own! Matt was very generous on the price of this front and back suspension package. I have no problem modifying these plates on my own. Should be a lot of fun slipping this beam inside the frame. As for shocks they are over rated. All tho, I would like to get a bit creative as well as try something new. We will see what happens... I would love to see what type of effect the shock between the control arms would have on the ride and handling! Overkill? Maybe. But then again, may prove to make a substantial difference. I have always wondered ever since I saw it on the SW.

I had to go inside the frame on my Highroof to get good tuck for the Cosmic's. I never had shocks and my ride was OK. Looking back now there are some thing I would have done differently. The real work is in the setup, that's where experience comes in.

Shocks are a dampener. They don't smooth out the bumps, they keep the car from bouncing after a bump. With a torsion stack that narrow you're not going to have much free travel anyway, let alone "bounce".

Better is relative. It still rides like crap, just better than it did. It only has bus boy adjusters and a non narrowed beam from 15+ years ago.

Yeah lowered bus 15+ years ago, back when most people were rolling mini trucks and flourescent colored bugs, I had my dropped 21 and Greg had Slam-o-matic SC!  biggrin

The Slam-O-Matic is maybe closer to 10 years ago....... I will throw back 15 years with this one though....
Dropped spindles, adjustable beam, straight axle kit, and the same 1904cc that's in the Vendo today!

Yeah, most people were into mini trucks back then.

I've been doing this for awhile now.
